Hair loss happens for several reasons including old age, genetics, and medications. No matter what the cause, when our hair starts to recede, it can deflate confidence like nothing else.

If this sounds like you, don’t worry because hope is not lost. While it is true that pattern balding is difficult to treat, there are methods available to try that may rejuvenate your follicles.

So, are you dealing with gradual or sudden hair loss and looking for the best treatment option? Here is a guide to gaining back both your hair and your confidence.

Hair Transplant

Hair restoration is one of the most popular hair loss treatments out there. This procedure is purely cosmetic. Meaning, there is no surgery necessary, which is, well, new. When you go into the doctor’s office, you have a professional pick at your scalp to thread strands of hair into your head.

One thing to remember with transplants is that you will not see immediate results. Many people get discouraged because their hair does not come back right away. However, you will have to wait about 3-4 months before the results become visible.

While that is true, the positive fact is that once results show up, they are likely permanent. So, if the treatment works, your transplant can last you a lifetime.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is critical to your overall health, which includes your hair. What you eat can not only dim and thin your locks, but it can influence hair loss as well.

So, be sure to pack your meals full of low-carb, low-sugar foods and snacks. Vitamins are also a good idea because they maximize hair growth and health.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the best vitamins to take are:

  • Vitamin B-12, A, and E
  • Zinc
  • Iron

Bear in mind that a healthy diet is not a cure-all for hair growth. It simply creates sturdier and healthier follicles that are less likely to fall out.

Switch Shampoo

If you notice hair falling off your scalp, your shampoo may be to blame. Some shampoos contain ingredients that are too harsh against your hair.

These products strip your follicle clean of the oils it needs to survive. When this happens, the hair dies and falls out.

Luckily, there are shampoos made for more sensitive skin and scalps. These items soothe the follicle so that it doesn’t lose its integrity and maintains a healthy state.

Take Medications

If you don’t want a hair transplant, then medications may be your next choice. Minoxidil, better known as Rogaine, is a popular prescription used for decades.

These products work to enlarge the follicles at the base of your scalp. They also elongate the time it takes for the hair to grow. That way, you have more of a chance to grow more hair follicles.
