Forehead wrinkles are one of the most common concerns women and men have about their skin. In the world of anti-aging and dermatology, there are a variety of treatment options available to help reducing forehead lines, and facial muscles. However, with many injectable choices and various types of facials promising glowing skin, how exactly do you know which treatment option is best for you?

What are some of the major causes of forehead wrinkles?

There are many factors that can cause forehead wrinkles, ranging from the use of various muscles in your face to a loss in skin elasticity that comes with age. One of the major causes for forehead wrinkles is the activity of the frontalis muscle which elevates the eyebrows, and therefore causes wrinkles across the forehead. In addition, a muscle around the eye, orbicularis oculi, can also cause forehead wrinkles when it closes. Specifically, orbicularis oculi can cause radial wrinkles, including crow’s feet, forehead lines, and above the eyebrow lines. Two other muscles on your face, the procerus muscle, and corrugator muscle, can also cause frown lines or “eleven” lines on the forehead.

What are the types of wrinkles?

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by facial muscles that move when you smile, laugh, and squint. These are often around the lips, on the forehead, and between the eyebrows. They are also the “crows’ feet” at the corner of your eyelids. Everyone is born with dynamic wrinkles. As you age, these wrinkles get deeper and easier to see. Botulinum toxin can be used to make these dynamic wrinkles less noticeable.

Very fine lines and wrinkles are formed when collagen in the skin starts to thin. Collagen is a protein just beneath and within deep skin layers. Aging and sun damage cause collagen thinning. It makes the skin on your face stretch and sag, creating fine wrinkles. Botulinum toxin does not erase fine lines and wrinkles. However, there are other ways to reduce their appearance.

What are the treatment options available to combat forehead wrinkles?

Botox is one of the best ways to alleviate forehead wrinkles. Botox Cosmetic is an injectable wrinkle muscle relaxer. Small doses of Botox (botulinum toxin product type A) are injected through tiny needles at precise points in your face to smooth the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles, the kind that is caused by your everyday facial expressions over time. Moreover, this works by inhibiting the nerve signal that causes muscles to contract, leaving your skin naturally smoother and younger-looking.
